Question

Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi ta'al wa barakatuhu.
My question is in regards to whether all our actions, thoughs, etc; whether good or bad, are preordained (qadr) by Allah (Subhanahu wa ta'ala) or whether as human beings, Allah has given us the free-will to do things and so we have control over things we do.

Answer

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray that this finds you well, and in the best of health and spirits. May Allah grant you all good and success in this life and the next.

We affirm two realities:

[1] Allah is the creator of all things, including human actions;

[2] The human being is morally responsible and acts on the basis of choice--free will, if you will--granted to them by Allah Most High.

Both these realities are clear and manifest in the Qur'an and Sunna, and entailed by sound reason.
