Question

As you should know we are living in state of Islam where every Imam or so called scholar has his own fatwas, and most of these fatwas seems to me as they are not following the Qur'an and Sunnah. Then we have the groups who are fighting each other: Sunni, Shi'a, Salafia, Sufia, and so on, while -to my meagre knowledge- most of them believe in the oneness of Allah (swt) and the prophecy and message of the Prophet, peace be upon him.

My question is, what are the steps one should take to shy away in any Islamic work or event to limit this event from any Muslim regardless of his or her mathhab? It is very important to me as well as to all Muslims all around the world.

Answer

Walaikum assalam,

Difference of opinion are of two types:

a) Acceptable;

b) Unacceptable.

Acceptable differences are those that arise from varying understandings of the primary texts through sound legal methodology. Operationally, this is the case with the sound positions within the four Sunni schools of fiqh, and of those who follow their methodology in our times.

Differences based on departures from this methodology are in error.

To understand the way of traditional Sunni Islam, which is the priceless inheritance left behind by the Best of Creation, our Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace), read the excellent articles at Sidi Mas’ud Khan’s site: http://www.masud.co.uk

Walaikum assalam,
Faraz Rabbani.
