Question

I have a christian friend who has shown interest in Islam, we've had some brief conversations about beliefs and fundamentals of both religions. He wants some advice on what books to read, I have no idea where to begin and feel out of my depth as my knowledge is quite basic. When introducing someone to Islam is there anything in particular to begin with and what books would be best to advise him to read?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.

Dear Sister,

I pray this message finds you well.

I suggest you check out Astrolabe.com's Dawah & Outreach page. They've put together various packages tailored to the specific needs of churches, synagogues, universities, as well as individuals.

I also suggest sharing personal accounts of journeys to Islam, such as Shaykh Nuh Keller's Becoming Muslim.

Shaykh Hamza Yusuf also has excellent material that is appropriate for non-Muslims. I've heard that his Purification of the Heart, available in book and audio format, appeals to a wide audience.

Finally, I've heard good reviews of Ruqayyah Waris Maqsood's What Every Christian Should Know About Islam.

Last but not least, what do you like to read? Perhaps something in your own library might make a good gift, particularly, a translation of the Qur'an or some selections from the Sunnah.
