Question
I am a 20 year old first year unveristy student from australia. i come from a muslim family but who are not practicing, not praying fasting etc but good people alhamdulilah. Recently i have been very interested in leaving my accounting studies and focusing solely on my deen and perhaps going abroad to study islam. I don't know any arabic, and my question is where do i start, i feel for myself this obligation to do this but am a little lost at the moment. Reasons being as follows; both my parents are doctors and the reaction of me leaving my studies to pursue studying my deen would be upsetting for them. i have been failing a few of my subjects in accounting but only have two more to go until i pass to go onto the second year, i feel this happened because of laziness but more because a lack of interest in accounting. Also i feel a great passion to study islam permanently but wonder upon returning how could i support myself financially, or god willing i have a family what would i do then. Brother forgive me for my ignorance but these are the questions that have been on my mind. i ask in sincerity insh'Allah from someone with experience to give a little guidance as to where i could begin, how to take this first step and then where from there. I know that making this decision can be a bit upsetting for my family but i feel in my heart this is what i am supposed to do. Insh'Allah i am willing to do whatever it takes.
