Question

Dairy farmers often inject substances into their cattle in order to increase their milk production. As a side effect of these injections, a small amount of blood exits from the udders while the cattle are being milked. This blood mixes with the milk but is too slight in amount to cause any discernible change. What is the ruling on the consumption of such milk?

Answer

It seems that this blood is excused because of the hardship that is involved in avoiding it. [h: The milk is not therefore considered filthy, and the presence of such blood] does not make it impermissible to consume the milk. Jurists have explicitly stated that feces that falls into milk while milking an animal is excused, and the blood described in the question should be a fortiori excused because it is even more difficult to avoid.

After writing this answer, I asked this question to my teacher, Shaykh Muhammad al-Khatib, and he gave the same answer.

And Allah Most High knows best.
