Question

What is the origin of the word Allah?

Answer

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate. May Allah's blessings and peace be on His Messenger Muhammad, and his folk, companions, and followers.

The position of the majority of the scholars of language, tafsir, hadith, and fiqh is that Allah is a non-derived name of the Supreme Being, and was not used to refer to any but the One True God. [Ibn Abidin, Radd al-Muhtar; Bajuri, Tuhfat al-Murid]

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
