Question
My son is a good student, and he wants to go to a good university. Could you please tell me some du'as to recite for him?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful.
Praise be to Allah. May the peace and blessings of Allah shower upon our beloved Messenger.
From the example of our beloved Messenger, peace be upon him, we know that we are encouraged to ask Allah for all of our needs, no matter whether they relate to this world or the hereafter.
Allah the Exalted says in the Qur'an in Surat Ghafir, "And your Lord says: "Call on Me; I will answer your (Prayer)."
So call on Allah to grant your request and send your son to the school of his choice if this is the best thing for him.
Additionally, there is a du'a from the tradition of the Prophet, peace be upon him, that you and your son can say. This is a special prayer to say when asking Allah to grant needs.
According to Mishkat, whoever has a need that can be fulfilled by Allah or by a human being should make a good ablution, then pray two rak'as. After finishing, he should glorify Allah, send blessings on the Prophet, peace be upon him, and then say:
There is no deity save God, the Clement, the Bountiful. Glory be to God, Lord of the Magnificent Throne! Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds! I beg of Thee the causes of (obtaining) Thy mercy, and the purposes of (securing) Thy pardon; spoil from every righteousness, and safety from every sin. Leave no sin of mine unforgiven; no anxiety unrelieved; and no need of mine, wherewith Thou art pleased, unfulfilled. O Thou the Most Merciful of those who show mercy! (Narrated by 'Abdullah ibn Abi 'Awfa in Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah.) [A.H. Farid, Prayers of Muhammad]
And Allah alone gives success.
