Question
My husband and I have been married for two months and within these two months my husband has caused many problems between us and is now asking for a divorce. I have tried my hardest to make things work out between us but he just doesn't want to be married to me anymore. He promised to make me happy and told me many things about how our marriage life is going to be before we were married. After we were married he has done the exact opposite of what he has promised me and we both want to be divorced. My question is: is it wrong for us to get a divorce and if it is not how do we go and get a divorce?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful and Compassionate
May Allah's peace and blessings be upon His Messenger Muhammad, his folk, companions, and followers
I pray that you are well, and in the best of health and spirits. May Allah grant you all good in this life and the next.
The beginning of marriage is often difficult and challenging. Try your best to resolve your mutual problems in a spirit of cooperation and positive communication. If this fails to work, seek qualified counselling. If that fails to work, then seek the advice of a scholar, and part in the spirit of the Qur'an and Sunna: with excellence, without rancor, and wishing each other the best for the future.
And Allah alone gives success.
Faraz Rabbani.
