Question

Assalam Alaykym wa Rahmatallahi wa Barakatahu,

Someone cheated on exams in high school during some of the 10th grade and in much of the 11th grade. When he reached the 12th grade he quit cheating and as much as he knows did not cheat what so ever insha Allah. He is now starting college and has repented to Allah intending to never cheat again. What should he do now that the 10th and 11th grades are long gone and he has graduated from high school to "return rights to others".

Jazakallahu Khayrun

Answer

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

In such a case, sincere repentance--with its conditions--is sufficient, as no material rights of others were taken through the cheating.

This is different from cheating in situations that get one a degree which one wouldn't otherwise have obtained and then gets employment based on that degree--in such cases, one must redress the wrong.

And Allah alone gives success.
