Question

Asalamu Alaykum,

A friend of mine has apostated from Islam. I think she loves the deen but was lacking support, and was in bad company. She's young and wants to party with her friends, do things so called normals girls her age do.

How should I treat her? What's the shariah view on this? Do I continue to treat her as a friend, let her find her own way back to Islam? Should i sever all contact?

She hasn't uttered any disbelief in Allah or the messenger (saw) that i know of. I believe it's all due to the fact she is weak and a part of her wants to do things other teens are doing. She never reached the point where she was proud enough to go to muslim gatherings. It saddens me.

Answer

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I pray that this finds you well, and in the best of health and spirits. May Allah grant you all good and success in this life and the next.

In such situations, wisdom is needed in dealing with the person. What they need is the company of believers in a manner that is non-threatening and would gradually bring them back to the truth with Allah's permission. Sometimes this is best through individual interaction with the person; at other times, by small groups of her Muslim friends.

Never forget to make dua for her while hope remains for her guidance, and remember the words of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), "For Allah to guide a single soul through you is better for you than red camels." [Bukhari and Muslim] Red camels were the most prized wealth of Arabs. In other narrations, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "For Allah to guide a single soul through you is better for you than the world and all it contains." [Iraqi, Takhriq al-Ihya, referencing it to the Musnad of Imam Ahmad]

And Allah alone gives success.
