A is for Ablution

MW listed ablution as their word of the day yesterday. Along with circumambulation, it is one of those English words that Muslims (at least some translators) have almost adopted as our own. Who can forget the first time they saw circumambulation and said “is this English?”

My favorite has to be Sidi Mustafa Azzam’s rediscovery of “filthify.”

For the Brits like Sidi Sohail Nakouda of Islamica who can’t stand Webster’s, Oxford also has a Word of the Day service.
