In my college the lunch break is from 2:00 to 2:30, so on Friday by the time all the Muslim students go for Juma'ah, it's over. So is it permissible to pray Juma'ah for the second time in the same mosque after the first Jamaat?

Al-Salam alaykum

The Jumu`ah salah offered in the same masjid for a second time will be valid. However it is makruh to offer any congregation for a second time in the same masjid.

Hence it is best that Jumu`ah be offered at the later time at some other venue (maybe the college prayer room). The conditions for Jumu`ah must be fulfilled. An important condition is al-idhn al-`amm - i.e. there must be open permission for anyone wishing to join the congregation even if he is not a student of the college.

It is not a condition for Jumu`ah salah that it be offered in a masjid.

THE SECOND CONGREGATION
A Differed-Upon Matter

Assalamu alaikum,

There is much difference of opinion within the Hanafi school about the permissibility of a second congregation at a mosque where a congregation has been prayed. Now, while the transmitted opinion of Abu Hanifa (Allah be pleased with him) is that it is disliked (makruh), the later scholars held that it is not disliked , as long as the second congregation differs from the first, which, they said, happens if one prays away from the prayer niche (mihrab). This is the position quoted by Imam al-Tahtawi and `Allama ibn Abidin, in their respective Hashiyas on Imam al-Haskafi's Durr al-Mukhtar, and this is the position adopted and practiced by the Syrian Hanafis. However, the position taken by great Indian Hanafis is generally the former one, which was what Mawlana Abu Usama mentioned.

Wassalam,
Faraz .
