I recently initiated a divorce through khula… My husband refused to give me a divorce at first, so I turned to two scholars here in California to help me with my matter. One of the Imams who was authorized to proceed with the matter, issued me the divorce and gave me a certificate. My husband’s contact information was given to the Imam. Also he continuously harassed me because I was at my parents’ house… When a week later I received the certificate that I was free from the marriage bond, my husband calls me erratically because he had to leave the country and because he received a copy of it. I was not aware of the Imam contacting or not contacting my husband. When he called me he was furious about the process and swore it was invalid and that if I continue to be away from him, I will be cursed. He is now out of the country and continues to claim the divorce being invalid. How should I proceed?

Wa alaykum assalam warahmatullah

I suggest that you once again contact the two scholars who issued you with the divorce certificate and ask them to give you the details of how they came to this verdict. Ask them to send a copy of the details to your (ex) husband also.

It is impossible for an outsider like me to give you advice on your matter, for I am not aware of the proceedings that took place.

Wassalam
