A brother I know is convinced that it is permissible to talk freely to a member of the opposite sex, if its for da'wah purposes. Is this true? Is it allowed to talk on the phone with a member of the opposite sex (without any wali present) if you have the intention to marry the person?

In the Name of Allah, Most Merciful & Compassionate

Assalamu alaikum,

It is permitted without dislike to talk to the opposite sex when there is a need or obvious benefit, to the extent of the need, within the limits of Islamic propriety and dignified conduct.
