Question

Could you please elaborate on this point, with regards to when a person becomes 'responsible' rather than just an adult, or am I to understand that the two are the one and the same. If a person becomes 'responsible' when he/she becomes an adult, I am slightly confused as this would be solely a physical criteria. How is the psychological (mental)/emotional level of an individual assessed?

Answer

Assalam,

Legally, a person becomes an adult when the signs mentioned in the article (see Related Q&A) are met. It is a solely physical criterion, as only such criteria are objective.

It is the religious duty of parents to prepare the child for their adult duties.

Wasalam,
Faraz Rabbani.
