Question

I was wondering what the opinion is about sending children to these secular schools in England. I live very close to a school but it is not good in it's standards. I was thinking of home schooling but don't seem to have the himma to get going. A better school in terms of it's standards is a catholic school a few miles away, but I wasn't sure if it better to send him there.

Answer

Walaikum assalam,

The first duty of parents towards is to ensure that the religion of their kids is preserved and sustained. This means to that they have to take the means to teach them everything they need to know as a Muslim, and ensure the environment and conditions that would normally lead to them acting on this knowledge as upright Muslims.

Allah Most High said in the Qur'an, "O you who believe, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is humans and stones..." (66: 6)

It is also their duty to give them the tools to be able to function and support themselves in society.

As such, they should see where and how this can be best fulfilled in their context.

And Allah alone gives success.

Walaikum assalam,
Faraz Rabbani.
