Concerning the question: "Marriage to a convert in secret: would it be valid in spite of not being the ideal sunna way?"

Answer

Assalamu alaikum,

Given some follow-up questions, it is important to be clear that such ‘secret’ marriages are:

a) generally harmful;

b) generally lead to being bad to one’s parents, which is one of the greatest of sins;

c) are often conducted in manners that are invalid, Islamically, or at least dubious;

d) general lacking in baraka and success, given the problems associated with them.

Thus, the right way of going about them is to be very cautious, and to seek the guidance of scholars of understanding at every step.

These points are made by Shaykh Muhammad ibn Adam in his answer, but are important to reiterate, given the sensitivity of the issue.

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam.

Faraz Rabbani
