Question

My brother has 3 children. He had 2 of his children, from two different girls, before he got married. Is it permissible for me to interact with all 3 of his children, or just the one that he had when he was married?

Answer

Wa alaikum salaam wa rahmatullah,

The lineage of any child born out of wedlock or born within six months of marriage is not established from the father.

As such—if you are male--if they are daughters, it will not be permissible for you to interact with them, when they reach puberty. Interaction with sons is permitted. (The opposite applies to women.)

And Allah knows best.
Yusuf Mullan

Faraz: This is the command of Allah the Most Wise about children born out of wedlock. The wisdom is for those involved and those around them to realize the gravity of the sin. Sometimes, Allah makes us bear lesser individual harm to avoid greater social harms.
