Question

For nikah to be valid is it necessary for the witnesses to know they are witnessing for a nikah. for example a couple say to each other ''zawwajtuki` and the other one says ''qabiltu'' in the presence of their parents then will nikah be valid though the parents and whoever is present never expected this and they are being made to be witnesses?
