Question

Can a sister who follows Hanafi fiqh marry a brother who follows shafi''i fiqh? If it is allowed, is it encouraged?

Answer

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

There is nothing disliked about marrying someone of another school of Sunni scholarship. Rather, considering this to be improper or disliked would be a reprehensible innovation. The ulema across the Sunni schools emphasized piety (taqwa), good character, and compatibility as central criteria, not mere madhhabi affiliation.

And Allah alone gives success.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
