A very good sister's marriage failed, and now she is sad and bitter. Advice?

Assalamu alaikum,

This falls under the general rubric of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace)’s words, “If Allah loves a servant, He sends them trials.”

Trials are a means for us to demonstrate our commitment to Allah and His Messenger, our certainty in the eternal verities of faith, and our patience and thankfulness for our countless blessings.

The way to understand this is to make it a habit to:

a) thank Allah for all one’s blessings regularly (e.g. making it a conscious point to do this after every fard prayer), from the depths of one’s heart, bringing to mind one’s blessings. After all, Allah has told us, “If you try to count the blessings of Allah, you will not be able to.”

b) recite the Qur’an with reflection, daily.

And Allah alone gives success.

Faraz Rabbani.
Wassalam.
