Could you recommend to me some good Urdu works on tassawuf and tafseer in the Urdu language. Tafseer a bit deeper than Maariful Qur’an. I understand a number of Shaykh Yusuf Nabhani's works have now been translated into Urdu.

Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,

I am not in a position to recommend Sufism works, especially in Urdu: it is a science I am ignorant of, and the spiritual is sought from living masters of this science, not from books.

As for tafsir, Qadi Thana’ Allah Panipatti’s al-Tafsir al-Madhhari has been translated ably into Urdu. (Get the Darul Ishaat edition)

As for what other tafsirs would be suitable, this would depend on your background in Islamic studies: tafsir is called ‘the highest of sciences’ because it depends on all the other sciences—thus, to understand the major classic works of tafsir (such as Alusi, Abu Su`ud, Baydawi and its Hawashi, etc.) you need to have a solid grounding in the major Islamic sciences, particularly the sciences of Arabic (such as nahw, sarf, and balagha).

And Allah knows best.

Wassalam,

Faraz Rabbani
