Question
Can you name your child after an angel like one of the four main angels, such as Gibril?
Answer
Walaikum assalam wa rahmatullah,
I pray that this finds you well, and in the best of health and spirits. May Allah grant you all good and success in this life and the next.
It is permitted without dislike to give children the names of any of the angels or prophets. There is nothing established to prohibit this, nor is there any legal reason that would entail dislikedness or prohibition. This is the position of the Hanafi school and also of the majority of Islamic scholarship.
